All: That’s me on the lower left, the one with the Amish beard. Ain’t I handsome?! ;~)
I sure hope I am not wrong! I had you down as the second man on the right in the middle, basically in the middle of the picture. Got my fingers crossed-now remember I only met you once and this picture was taken a while ago. Go easy on me. I went to Wal-mart tonight and when I walked in the door I thought to myself what pretty poinsettias. You know they were fake? I could not tell myself. I can see where you would’ve made the mistake all those years ago.
Ms. Tina: I’m wondering if any of y’all might recognize me in the photo? It was taken sometime around 1974 or 1975. W2W: I don’t recollect who kept their beards and who didn’t after our “patrol” was over. Sadly, I don’t know what happened to any of those guys. But back then, they were indeed a great bunch of guys. Flydragon: Since we couldn’t have long hair, some of us grew beards to compensate. Ms. Cindy: The time I spent in the Navy won’t be soon forgotten. I think of those days often. Ms. LK: Thanks. I’m glad you came over for a look. ;~)Official Title:STS 3 (SS) = Sonar Technician Third Class, Submarines USS Mariano G. Vallejo SSBN 658 (B)
Enjoying your photos 🙂
Seems like you’ve been walking down Memory Lane lately.
I take it that some kind of facial hair was a requirement for sub duty:)
I’m just wondering. Did the beards disappear as soon as shore leave was announced? Boy, what a man-cave that submarine must have been! Garages and workshops these days must be poor substitutes. I hope you keep in touch with your former sub-mates. They look like a great bunch of guys.
I am really liking your say nothin Saturday! What a nice bunch of memories for you. Very nice.
